오늘은 미국과 다른 여러 국가에서 어머니를 축하하는 날(Mother’s Day; 매년 5월 첫 번째 주일-역자주)입니다. 우리도 우리들의 어머니들과 우크라이나의 어머니를 축하하고 싶습니다.

“Happy Mother’s Day!” (“어머니의 날을 축하합니다!)

이 특별한 날 우크라이나에 있는 어머니들과 자녀들의 안전을 위해 남편을 떠나야 했던 우크라이나의 어머니들을 위해 기도합시다. 전쟁 중에 어머니가 되는 것은 감당할 수 없는 짐입니다. 심지어 성경도 전쟁 중의 임산부들과 갓난아이의 엄마들이 경험하는 특별한 고난에 대해 말합니다. 전쟁 중에 어머니들은 자녀를 보호하기 위해, 먹이기 위해, 그들의 두려움을 지켜보거나, 그들에게 평안을 주기 위해 전혀 다른 차원의 고통을 경험합니다. 오늘은 우크라이나의 어머니들을 위해 기도합시다. 오늘은 우리 우크라이나 군인들의 어머니들을 위해 기도합시다.

자신의 아들과 딸이 조국의 미래 권리를 위해 죽음까지 각오했다는 것을 아는 것은 또 다른 차원의 고통입니다. 70여 일이 지나는 동안 자녀들을 잃어버린 어머니들을 위해 기도합시다. 우리 문화에는 이런 말이 있습니다. ‘부모가 자녀보다 오래 사는 것은 불행한 일이다.’ 긍휼이 많으신 하나님의 위로가 우크라이나 어머니들에게 힘과 도움, 공급, 소망을 주시도록 기도합시다!!

5월 9일은  2차 세계 대전에서 러시아의 승리를 기념하는 모스크바의 큰 축제입니다. 그날 퍼레이드에서 무엇이 선포될지에 대한 많은 염려와 두려움이 있습니다. 전쟁 선언도 가능합니다! 이것은 젊은이들을 군대에 징집하는 것을 허용할 것입니다. 전쟁 선언은 러시아군이 점령한 땅을 공식화하고 인수하게 할 것입니다. 그것은 또한 일부 다른 주변 지역 및 국가에 대한 선전포고가 될 수도 있습니다. 

평화를 위해, 이 도시들의 학살과 무분별한 파괴가 끝나기를 기도합시다. 많은 전 세계의 교회들이 이날 함께 기도하도록 격려받고 있습니다. 그들과 간절한 기도로 깊이 합류합시다!
