A Letter from the IDTSC
A Letter from the IDTSC
To All YWAM/UofN leaders,
From International DTS Centre Coordinating Team: Maureen Menard, Patti Lee, Carlinha de Paulo, Vickie Hedgepeth, Amos Hathway, Lisa Whitaker, Kima Hmar, Gilberto and Jussara de Mello and Elena Ciobo.
Given the impact of the coronavirus on our DTSs world wide we have decided:
FOR Q1 2020 DTS LECTURE WITH A Q2 2020 OUTREACH WHO ARE AFFECTED BY THE CORONAVIRUS
The Q1 2020 DTS must complete at least 11 weeks of the lecture phase. If the lecture phase is less than 11 weeks, we ask the school leadership to create a way for students to complete the work at a distance through books, tapes or ways that work for your people and locations. This must include some kind of staff – student communication to validate completion. The school leadership is to create a course instance and register the students and grades as normal.
The Outreach for Q1 2020 DTSs which would be in Q2 2020 would be waived for successful completion of the DTS but with no credit given for the outreach.
Therefore the students who have successfully completed the lecture phase would also have successfully completed the DTS. They are eligible to join staff and to take further UofN courses.
Q1-Q2 DTS LECTURE AND OUTREACHED PHASES NOT AFFECTED BY THE CORONAVIRUS: complete lecture and outphase as normal.
For Q1-Q2 DTSs who have been affected but want to find an alternative way for students to do outreach and be granted credit.
- A location can postpone the outreach phase until a later time when it is possible to reconvene the teams and send them out as normal.
- UofN Kona DTSs have created a curriculum path for their students to do outreach at home. They did this using the Fruitful Practice for DTS Outreach as a guide and with the input and oversight from one of our IDTSC leader, Ben. And input from one of the UofN’s Vice Presidents, David Hamilton. Students are/will be sent home to engage in all aspects of a Full Learning Week for outreach for 8 weeks. They will continue together as a cohort using on-line tools and with staff oversight. Weekly documentation of all student activities confirmed by staff must be submitted upon completion of the outreach before a grade and credits can be given. (This is a solution for ONLY this Q1-Q2 emergency situation.)
- Any DTS that would like to use Kona’s material or create your own for your Q1-Q2 outreach is free to do that as long as you are in a context where this is suitable and you have the resources and capabilities needed to run it. Any location choosing to do this must have permission and oversight of someone in the IDTSC network who can help assess your readiness for such an outreach and to support you through the process as necessary. Please contact your IDTSC person as soon as possible.
For Q4 2019 DTS Lecture Phase with Q1 2020 Outreach Only
We assume Q4 lecture phase was completed without impact of the Coronavirus, however, the Outreaches for these DTS may have been cut short. We will accept these shorter outreaches. School leadership needs to create a course instance and register the students and grades as normal. Please date the outreach from the time the outreach began to the time the team broke up on the field and were sent home. An appropriate number of credits will be assigned according to the number of weeks completed.
Students who have successfully completed Q4 2019 lecture phase with Q1 2020 limited number of outreach weeks will be considered to have successfully completed the DTS. Therefore, students may be accepted into YWAM and future UofN schools.
Q4 2019 DTS Lecture Phase and Q1 2020 Outreach Phase impacted by coronavirus. Any DTS in Asia whose lecture phase was impacted by the Coronavirus. Please contact your IDTSC person.
The IDTSC Leadership along with UofN Leadership will be monitoring the situation for Q2 DTS with Q3 outreaches. New information will be provided in a timely manner.
HOW TO REPORT IT IN THE UofN RECORDS APP?
When filling out the DTS course instance, note that there’s a new status ‘COVID-19’ in the Grade section (DTS outreach only). Choose this status if your DTS outreach was affected by the COVID-19. Be sure to add the actual days the students completed the outreach (from 0 to 12) so that the system may calculate the correct number of credits to be granted.
NOTE that the information for the entire outreach phase needs to be filled out, even if outreach was canceled.
If your DTS outreach is not being cancelled or cut short, do not use the status ‘COVID-19’.
If the DTS outreach was postponed, you can edit the dates by opening the Course Instance and clicking on EDIT, on the top right corner
